Canele's Opera Cake

Photobucket

Opera - coffee butter cream, dark chocolate ganache, biscuit joconde with espresso, dark chocolate glaze

After reading Ice's post on Canele New Opera, I made my way down to Robertson Quay a few days later to get this lovely cake. I almost squeaked in delight as I slowly indulge in this piece of dainty and exquisite creation. Indeed, this is undoubtedly one of the the best Opera Cake. The moist almond biscuit soaked with espresso is almost like eating Tiramisu, with savoiardi biscuit soaked with coffee liquor. The bitter chocolate ganache was a great complement to the moist almond sponge and butter cream. Each layer was distinctive in taste and the whole combination has a good balance of coffee and dark chocolate. This is one good Opera Cake, absolutely divine and really addictive! :)

This visit to Canele is truly unforgettable, especially with the wonderful Opera Cake. I certainly would like to try out more of Canele's new creations on my next visit! L'amour L'amour, Chloe and Tart Citron, here I come!
Yummm...

Yipes. Both you and fen posted this at the same time. I can feel the opera in my mouth already...

Hmm... Guess I should show both entries to Yuan and smacked his butt... He didn't want to go to Robertson Quay as he was tired after watching world cup...

If I am not mistaken, the night before I had Charlie Brown and Tarte Citron, we were watching S. Korea vs Greece and Nigeria vs Argentina...

Since Yuan wanted to watch Netherlands vs Japan that evening, we just grab the Opera, took a few quick shots so that we can nap...

Argh... didn't know the football cost me to miss out on the good stuff at Robertson Quay...

Okok, shall insist on Canele @ Robertson... Lesson learnt...

ice: All thanks to your review that I finally tried a good opera cake. :)

Fen: haha. I'm not sure of the quality of Canele's cakes at other branches as I don't eat their cakes frequent. I saw your review. The Opera cake I've tried doesn't really taste like what you've described. The slight bitterness of the Opera Cake is due to the strong espresso and dark chocolate. I thought the overall combination contrasted pretty well especially with the light butter cream. For those who prefer sweeter cake may not like this though. haha

HungryTrotters: I believe they will still have it when you're back! Hope you are doing great in Amsterdam! :)
